HOTEL INFORMATION

The Washington Marriott is located just steps from historic Georgetown, Dupont Circle, Foggy Bottom, and Washington DC's central business district. HOTEL ROOM RATES:          Single/Double Room:     $165 plus tax **The Marriott room block with the $165 rate is full**

SUGGESTIONS on other options !!!

1-       Hyatt Regency Crystal City- tel 703-418-1234- about 4 miles away from the Washington Marriott but accessible by Metro (Blue and Orange lines). They have availability at rates in the $220.00’s.

2-       Best Western Hotels: 3 of them in the area a) BW Georgetown (about 1 mile away on New Hampshire Avenue in DC) 202-457-0565; b) BW Capital Skyline (about 2 miles away) in No. VA and tel is 703-488-7500; c) BW Key Bridge (about 1.7 miles away in Rosslyn area of No. VA) accessible by Blue/Orange lines and tel is 703-522-0400.

3-       Holiday Inn; 2 of them in the area that have availability and best is to book them through www.holidayinn.com. The first one if the Holiday Inn Key Bridge (about 1.7 miles away and accessible by Blue/Orange lines of Metro) and the other is Holiday Inn Ballston (in the Ballston area of No. VA about 3.5 miles away and accessible by Orange Line of Metro).

The Conference Hotel is in the Dupont Circle Neighborhood at 1221 22nd Street, NW, Washington, DC 20037 and borders George Washington University/Foggy Bottom neighborhood. Georgetown and White House are not far, but may require a bus ride. To be within walking distance it is recommended to stay in Dupont Circle or George Washington/Foggy Bottom neighborhoods. You might be able to find good hotel deals on travel websites, but you may want to check to make the neighborhood is near the hotel. Some travel websites like Hotwire.com and priceline.com give you some context for the hotel location with maps.

CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS

Conference Reception at the Embassy of Australia and Region VIII 50th Birthday Reception:
The Embassy of Australia will host the conference reception as Region VIII NAFSA turns 50!  Drink Australian wine, enjoy special entertainment, and see pictures of your colleagues from long ago!

On-Site Visit to the Student and Exchange Visitor Headquarters: Heear from the Student and Exchange Visitor Administrators on their turf, with a brief tour of their worksite.

Pre-registration is required for this event and space is limited. Please bring Photo ID for proof of pre-registration and security.
The Student and Exchange Visitor Program will host NAFSANs who would like to learn more about SEVP’s current priorities and efforts, and would like to hear questions and concerns from NAFSA members.

Directions:  The nearest metro stop to the hotel is the red line at Dupont Circle, the nearest red line metro stop to the SEVP Headquarters is Gallery Place-Chinatown.   More direct bus routes are also available.  For detailed itineraries, please go to wmata.com.  The hotel address is: 1221 22nd Street, NW, Washington, DC 20037; and the SEVP HQ Address is: 425 I Street, NW Washington, DC 20536  Arrival 30 minutes prior to the event is recommended.  The DC Circulator (red bus) seems to be the most direct route. You need $2.00 ($1.00 each way).

Embassies from many countries around the world will be available to answer questions and share information with NAFSA Conference participants


Plenary Speaker
Paula Nirschel, Founder and Director of The Initiative to Educate Afghan Women (http://www.ieaw.org/).  Mrs. Nirschel founded the program in 2002 to help educate and strengthen the lives of young women from Afghanistan.  This year there are 30 students at colleges and universities across the country.
